Crocodile tracking using the Argos satellites
Client enquiry:
Sirtrack were contacted by Bindi Thomas, a masters student at Massey University, New Zealand, regarding satellite tracking of saltwater crocodiles in the Northern Territory of Australia. Bindi had been in contact with Dr Mark Read of the Crocodile Management Unit from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services who had used Sirtrack KiwiSat PTTs very successfully in the past.
Sirtrack response:
Our satellite division gave comprehensive explanations of the Argos satellite tracking system and pricing structures involved, see Introduction to Argos/PTT tracking
Through correspondence with Dr. Read and Bindi, the PTT was customised to the specific requirements for her research programme.
Outcome:
For further information on the project see her website www.croctrack.org.nz/index.htm
