About Sirtrack

The Sirtrack building
The Sirtrack building in Havelock North

History

Sirtrack began life as a commercial entity in 1986 as an initiative of the Ecology Division of the New Zealand Government’s Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (D.S.I.R). The experience and expertise of those behind the company preceded this date however, with many of the original founders having worked as pioneers in the industry since the 1960s when the practice of telemetry and wildlife tracking devices started to gain momentum as a viable scientific practice. There is no doubt that the success of the company over the past ten years can be attributed to the experience of the company’s original pioneers and to those who have followed in their footsteps.

Our team

At Sirtrack, we have always had a genuine interest and passion for wildlife telemetry and our team is well-known and respected for our expertise and knowledge. We are proud to be proactive and progressive and we will go out of our way with typical ‘kiwi ingenuity’ to assist a researcher achieve their research objectives. It’s this attitude that has seen us grow to become the largest supplier of wildlife tracking equipment in Australasia, and we continue to grow rapidly in the international market. To date, we have manufactured telemetry equipment for research on more than 460 species of wildlife and we have sent our VHF, satellite and GPS technology to more than 70 countries around the world.
